2013 was a great year for real estate in Lafayette and Acadiana and it looks like 2014 is off to a similar start.
As we can see, home sales for January this year are on par with those of January last year. Pending sales, however, are lower now than they were at this time in 2013. In Lafayette parish, there are currently 464 home sales pending compared to 582 last year and in Acadiana, the number is 714 compared to 834 in February 2013.
Another factor worth noting is the fact that our inventory of homes for sale has been slipping since the beginning of the year. There are less homes on the market now than there has been for the last 14 months.
I think the dip in inventory might have something to do with the unusually cold winter we are having this year in South Louisiana. If you are thinking about selling your home, don’t wait much longer. Inventory will be going up very soon as warmer weather settles in, which means more competition for your home on the market.
