Sugarcane season is here again and with that come the dust and dark clouds of the cane burning in our area but also the Louisiana Sugarcane Festival & Fair in New Iberia.
The Sugarcane Festival features various venues throughout New Iberia: blessing of the crop, carnival rides, food court, 4-H sugar cookery contest, Bayou Girl Scouts bake-off, coronation of Queen Sugar, judging of best decorated storefronts and homes, sugar artistry display & tasting, garden/flower, sugar cane, photography, and arts & crafts exhibits, livestock show, parades, fireworks, fais do do. Of course Down Town Alive will be swinging tonight with the Mercy Brothers at Parc Sans Souci starting at 5:30 and going till 8:30.
There is also a “Community Celebration to Honor Mickey Shunick” tomorrow (September 29th) at Parc International in Lafayette. The event begins at noon and features art, t-shirts, speeches by those involved in the search and band performances by “Whole Damn Town” at 1:30, “imagineIAM” at 2:30, and “Rareleuth” at 3:45. There is also Louisiana Chicken Festival in downtown Dubach, Baker Buffalo Festival in Baker, NOLA Downtown Music and Arts Festival and so much more going on in every nook and cranny of the state! You never have to sit around and wonder “What to do” in south Louisiana!
