Acadiana is well-known for the number of festivals we host each year. We can turn just about anything into a celebration; from holidays to food to animals, we’ve got every kind of festival you can imagine. Our passion for celebration is intrinsic to Cajun culture. We never pass up the chance to have a good time because we are all too familiar with hardship.
Acadians have always been devoted and hardworking people; ever since they first settled in South Louisiana, our ancestors worked incessantly to adjust to their new lives after deportation from Nova Scotia, and they struggled to keep their culture alive despite increasing homogenization of the United States. (Read more about the plight of the early Acadians in South Louisiana.)
Fortunately, Cajun culture was preserved through our traditions, values, music, food, and general way of life. To this day, it thrives.
And, of course, we celebrate this. Festivals Acadiens et Creoles is a 5 day long superfestival, comprised of several different events, all celebrating the preservation of Cajun culture in South Louisiana: music performances, food fests, arts and crafts expos, and so much more!
Festivals Acadiens et Creoles begins on October 7 and lasts until October 11, so there’s plenty of time to celebrate the Cajun Way of Life and so many reasons to celebrate it. Because we are the product of a long and difficult history. Because we are unique in our culture and traditions. Because we deserve to have a good time. Because we are Acadians!
