For the past two years, I’ve been a member of the Board of Directors for Festival International and this year, everyone worked hard at making the 25th edition very special.

The line up is fantastic, as always, and this year, the programming committee made it a point to invite popular artists from past editions of the Festival. One of my favorite bands from Canada, “Suroit,” is back this year and so are the Burundi Drummers, Balkan Beat Box, MarchFourth Marching Band, Ricardo Lemva & Makina Loca, and Maria de Barros.  New and exciting performers are Bomba Estereo, JJ Grey & Mofro, Toubab Krewe and Red Baraat!!!!

Festival International de Louisiane is Free for everyone because of our volunteers! If you would like to volunteer and be a part of Festival, please register on our web site and tell us which area interest you.

We are in particular need in the following areas: -Production (we need strong individuals willing to work hard) -Ticketing at Scene International -La Boutique -and the volunteer Center.

Since the beginning of the year, we have seen a slight increase in the number of REO listings in our area.

As of April 15th, REOs, or bank owned properties, represented 3.3% of the active listing inventory in Lafayette parish and 4.75% in all the Acadiana area. Since the beginning of the year, REOs have accounted for about 8% of all home sales in Lafayette parish and 14% in Acadiana.

In September of 2009, I wrote about the foreclosure rate in Acadiana and Lafayette parish. At the time, active listings represented 1 to 2% of our inventory in Lafayette and Acadiana.

Home sales continue to be steady in Acadiana and in Lafayette parish this first quarter. In Acadiana, an average of 9 homes sold every day in March and over half of these sales were in Lafayette parish.

Below is the graph showing a slight decline in home sales in Lafayette parish when we compare this first quarter with the first quarter last year.

There are currently 538 home sales pending in Acadiana and 355 in Lafayette parish. The inventory has been pretty stable, too, with 2318 homes available in Acadiana and 1257 in Lafayette parish.
