RED Day! (Renew, Energize, Donate) in Lafayette, LA: A Success!

Yesterday (May 13th) was RED Day in Keller Williams’ offices across North America. A day where members of the Keller Williams family take a break from their busy lives to give back to their communities.

In Lafayette, LA, members of Keller Williams Realty Acadiana worked at transforming flower beds at the Acadian Village. And while most of us had planned to be there for the day, we had completed our work by the time lunch rolled around. We even did more than anticipated!

Our mission was to refresh the flower beds in front of “La Maison Bernard” and by the entrance of the village. Everything went so well with the crew we had on site that we also weeded and refreshed with new mulch the beds in front of “La Maison Castille” and “La Maison Thibodeaux.” We also found an old claw foot tub in storage that will now be prominently displayed as a flower tub.

Of course, the fact that we were working in beautiful, serene surroundings made us want to stick around a little longer. Here are a few pictures of our wonderful day at Acadian Village and of course some results!

Today is RED Day! (Renew, Energize, Donate)

Today is RED Day and Keller Williams Realty’s associates, staff, and friends, are getting ready to go to work and give where they live.Keller Williams RED Day: Giving where we live

RED Day, which stands for Renew, Energize, Donate, began last year across North America. It’s a day where the members of the Keller Williams family give back to the communities where they live (see my other post about RED Day here).

In Lafayette LA, the Keller Williams family will be playing in the dirt, Transforming flower beds at the Acadian Village. From their web site: “The Village was created in 1976 as a means to promote tourism and allow those developmentally disabled citizens who were serviced by LARC, Lafayette Association for Retarded Citizens, a place to prosper in the work force.”

We will be working in two main areas: in front of the Bernard house and by the entrance. I was named the official photographer for the event so yesterday, I went to the Acadian Village and took some “before” pictures. Shortly, I will be able to show you the different one day can make!

I hope everyone has a great day and can’t wait to hear all the RED Day stories from across North America in the next few days!

Happy Mother’s Day to All the Great Moms Out There!

I just wanted to take a second and wish all the moms out there a wonderful and peaceful Mother’s Day.

In a few minutes, I will be stepping outside with my camera to enjoy a beautiful afternoon here in Maurice, LA (near Lafayette, LA). Photography is a hobby of mine and I am by no means a professional photographer.

Below are a couple of flowers from my garden for all the mothers out there and the other picture is my daughter last summer in New Brunswick, Canada. Even though she not looking at the camera, I love this picture of her in the water with the ducks. It’s very peaceful and soothing.

Keller Williams RED Day event is May 13th!

Keller Williams RED Day: Giving where we liveRED Day (Renew, Energize and Donate) is a Keller Williams Realty service initiative dedicated to improving our local communities. In 2009, Keller Williams associates gave more than 150,000 hours to their respective communities across North America. This year, it will be even more!

For RED Day 2010, Keller Williams Realty Acadiana will be working at the Acadian Village in Lafayette, LA on May 13th (this coming Thursday). The Acadian Village “was created in 1976 as a means to promote tourism and allow those developmentally disabled citizens who were serviced by LARC, Lafayette Association for Retarded Citizens, a place to prosper in the work force.”

Our project: clean up and refresh 4 flower beds. So if you would like to help, bring your garden gloves and any gardening tools you have around the house and join us (please let me know so we can order lunch for you). If you can’t come May 13th and would like to participate, you can make a donation to the project (monetary, supplies, lunch, etc). Please contact me.

Watch the video below to hear some of the stories from RED Day 2009.

5 Cheap Curb Appeal Tips you’ve Probably Never Heard Before – by CurbAppealforDummies.com

If you are trying to sell your home, curb appeal is most important. After all, you will never get a second chance to make a good first impression.

The roof tip below is one of the best I’ve ever seen. And for $80? It is so worth it! In fact, this simple fix could net you hundreds more (perhaps thousands) for your home.

If you are unsure as to what you can do to make your home look better, do what I do for my clients and turn to a professional stager. They know the tricks, they know what works with buyers, and it probably will cost you a lot less than what you think!

1.Remove your landscaping!

Okay, not really, but dress your flower beds to impress by trimming back all plantings and taking some out to reveal about 30% of the ground. Add extremely dark mulch to those areas any VOILA – instant wow! The dark mulch will make your plants look greener and newer, and the beds look freshly tended. Use it everywhere – around trees where grass doesn’t grow, in flower pots, wherever bare earth is seen.

2.Get on your roof and scrub it on your hands and knees!

Or, better yet, buy a great product called Roof Reviver. Your squirt it on your roof with a bug sprayer, and in only 3-4 rains, all the black gunk washes off by itself, and it looks like you have a brand new roof, and every buyer wants to see a brand new roof. Go to www.RoofReviver.com and spend only $80 for a this wonderful stuff!

3.Evict your tenants!

The six and eight legged ones, anyway.

Spare no expense on a can of really expensive $5.99 outdoor bug spray and use it liberally around your front door and porch ceiling. Those nasty spiderwebs are not working in your favor, and your buyers will be standing out there looking at everything.

Make sure nothing is hanging around the door looking back!

4.Don’t be a Ding Dong!

If your doorbell is ugly, rusty, or just a relic from 1972, break out that wallet one more time and whip out a twenty! The most expensive doorbell at Lowe’s is $15, and attaching it will take you no time at all. Your buyers may have to touch it, so make it a pleasurable experience!

5. Give all your potential Buyers a Glassy-Eyed Stare!

If the “Eyes are the Windows to the Soul”‘ then the windows are the eyes and soul of the house. Match all your window treatments inside to present a uniform look on the front of the house. There are even really cool paper accordion shades that will do this trick inside your existing treatments that are really inexpensive. And, of course, clean your windows until they sparkle, or the Feng Shui ladies will be coming for you!
