Since the beginning of the year, we have seen a slight increase in the number of REO listings in our area.

As of April 15th, REOs, or bank owned properties, represented 3.3% of the active listing inventory in Lafayette parish and 4.75% in all the Acadiana area. Since the beginning of the year, REOs have accounted for about 8% of all home sales in Lafayette parish and 14% in Acadiana.

In September of 2009, I wrote about the foreclosure rate in Acadiana and Lafayette parish. At the time, active listings represented 1 to 2% of our inventory in Lafayette and Acadiana.

Home sales continue to be steady in Acadiana and in Lafayette parish this first quarter. In Acadiana, an average of 9 homes sold every day in March and over half of these sales were in Lafayette parish.

Below is the graph showing a slight decline in home sales in Lafayette parish when we compare this first quarter with the first quarter last year.

There are currently 538 home sales pending in Acadiana and 355 in Lafayette parish. The inventory has been pretty stable, too, with 2318 homes available in Acadiana and 1257 in Lafayette parish.

The 2011 edition of the (49th) annual Parade of Homes from the Acadian Home Builders Association in the Lafayette, LA area begins next weekend!

Mark your calendars: April 9, 10, 13, 16 & 17, 2011

The Parade of Homes is the public’s opportunity to view brand new homes built by some of the best builders in the area. This year, you will be able to view 38 homes in 22 subdivisions in Acadiana. A total of 25 builders will be showcased.

Tickets are $6 each and are now available at Doug Ashy Building Materials (2 locations: Johnston St and Verot School Road) and at the AHBA office (135 N. Domigue in Lafayette). During the Parade, tickets are available at the clubhouse in Grand Pointe subdivision. Guidebooks and maps are available while supplies last.
