Lafayette’s Cochon Restaurant is open for business as of today (september 15th) in Lafayette, LA. Cochon (pork in French) is located in River Ranch on the banks of the Vermilion River right by the Camellia Blvd bridge.

 

The restaurant features a terrace here with views of the Vermilion River. My husband and I plan on going for our anniversary in a couple of weeks. If you’ve been, let me know what you thoughts are!

I was not going to write anything about 9-11 today, mostly because every one is, and like me, many of you are probably feeling in 9-11 information overload. That said, I received an email from a friend this afternoon who reminded me about the memorial we have here in downtown Lafayette. It just so happen that I wasn’t far from it so I decided to go and take a picture.

These are beams that were salvaged from the World Trade Center standing tall and oriented like the original towers were in New York. The base is pentagonal in shape and includes limestone masonry salvaged from the Pentagon (it is also oriented like the actual Pentagon). On each tower are plaques with the times there were struck and the times they fell. In the base is also the time the Pentagon was struck. The beams are 13 1/2 feet tall and both the beams and the pentagonal base are at a 1/100th scale of the original structures.

If you want to see it, it is located in the corner of Parc Sans Souci in Downtown Lafayette at the intersection of Congress and Polk Street.

Home sales bounced back in August compared to July and reached 200 homes sold for Lafayette parish and 322 for Acadiana.

August home sales numbers look much better this year than they did last year. Again, we had the home buyer tax credit last year, which affected sales in the spring (on the up side) and the oil spill in the Gulf that likely affected sales in the summer months (on the down side). If anything, home sales may be returning to more “normal” levels.

There are currently 1252 homes available in Lafayette parish and 2394 in Acadiana, compared to 1266 and 2380 respectively last month.

As for pending home sales, there are currently 280 homes under contract in Lafayette parish and 464 in Acadiana. This is slightly down from 323 sales pending in Lafayette last month and 502 in Acadiana.
